September 2010 Quiz

This month’s quiz is a tough one… What significance does the date September 8, 2010 have?

A. When written in the European format, it is 8/9/10.

B. It is the date on which Mary [Pendleton] Ryan (1) becomes the oldest living relative on record.

C. It is the 400th anniversary of the date the first of our ancestors, Brian Pendleton (-9), landed in America.

Check back next month for the answer!

-- ANSWER

Although it is true that when written in the European format, it is 8/9/10, that’s hardly noteworthy.

I’m also just going to tell you that the date was NOT the 400th anniversary of Brian Pendleton landing in America, but I’m saving the correct answer to that question for another quiz.

That means the correct answer is that was the date Mary [Pendleton] Ryan became the longest lived relative on record. She was born 25, December 1908 and on 8, September 2010 had lived an incredible 37,147 days! That translates to 101 years, 8 months, 14 days, or to really blow your mind… 3.21 BILLION seconds! She is a truly remarkable lady. Let’s all hope that she lives another 3 billion seconds!

Special Birthday Notice

It was just brought to my attention, today, that Gert Pendleton, wife of Arnie Pendleton (1), will be celebrating her 90th birthday on August 30th. Please consider giving her a call or dropping her a card to help her mark this milestone!

Family Picnic

The annual family picnic was held today. The turnout was not quite as good as last year, but a good time was had by all who were there.

A raffle was held to help cover the cost of this year's picnic. I'm please to report that enough was raised to cover this year and there is a good "seed" fund for next year. Rhonda Reed (15) organized some games for the kids with prizes going to the winners. Luckily, ALL of the kids were winners!

Fortunately, the weather cooperated also. It was cloudy most of the afternoon which kept the temps in the low 80's rather than the upper 90's that had been predicted.

My sister, Sue [Pendleton] Ender (14), posted the pictures she took today. You will probably have to cut and paste the link into your browser.

If it doesn't work, let me know and I will try sending you the link by E-Mail.

I just want to express my personal thanks to Sue [Roberts] Heath (15) for all the time and effort she put into pulling this off again this year. She is already planning next year's picnic. The date will be August 7, 2011 - MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!!
