December 2014

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything other than updates to birthdays and memorials.

The year has passed WAY too quickly! The highlight of my year was going to Alaska for a friend’s daughter’s wedding in June. Beautiful country, but I don’t think I could live there – FAR too desolate for me! Jon and I took the train from Anchorage to Seward and went on a boat trip and saw some whales… very cool. Then another day, we flew to Denali National Park and actually landed on a glacier at the base of Mt. McKinley. VERY cool!!! I can’t describe how incredibly blue glacier ice is. It was mind-boggling to think that we were standing on ice that was 3,800 feet deep! Great food, amazing scenery and a beautiful wedding of two very nice kids – all in all, a great trip!

I resolved last year that I would not do any major projects this year and I’m proud to say I kept that resolution. All I did this summer was mowing and weeding – my two favorite summer activities!

My daughter, Michelle, her husband, Eric, and my grandkids, Addie and Clayton, are all well. Michelle had a work conference in Philadelphia in October and Eric went with her. Jon and I spent 5 days in De Forest “babysitting” the grandkids – although I have since been told that it was not babysitting; it was “intergenerational bonding time.” (This was told to me by co-workers… Michelle still says we were just ‘watching the kids.’ I’m with Michelle.) The grandkids are a real treat!

I really haven’t been doing much research into our genealogy this last year. I have, however, received a few inquiries from distant relatives through the blog over the past year or so. I heard from a cousin in Scotland a year ago. I heard from another in Oklahoma and, within the past week, I heard from a couple in Austria who might be related on the Hanifl side. I’m currently working on some accounting certifications and I need to complete some required CPE for my tax license before the end of the year, but, after that, I plan to get back into research…

So that was pretty much my year in 500 words or fewer. How was your year?

And, as long as we are on the subject of the past year… Were there any changes in your family? Marriages? Births? Or, heaven forbid, divorces or deaths?

As you and your families gather together for the holidays, I would hope the FIRST thing on your minds would be, “What do I need to share with Paul?” J OK, I know that’s not going to happen, but, seriously, if anything has changed in your family, PLEASE let me know.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

As always, keep in touch!

Rest In Peace - Bob Ogden

Sadly, I report the passing of  Bob Ogden (2) on Sunday, 26, Jan 2014. His passing was quite a shock as Kathy [Ryan] Meyer (2) had just talked to him several day ago and said he sounded fine.

He has had several medical issues over the past few years, but it is believed the cause of death was a ruptured aneurism.

Bob was born October 21, 1943 to Evelyn [Pendleton] (1) and Herman Ogden both of whom preceded him in death.

He married Janet Werner on November 12, 1966. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2005. He married Charlene King on June 6, 2009.

His daughter, Ann, told Kathy that Bob will be cremated and his family will probably wait until spring to have a memorial service for him.

Bob is survived by his children Judith, Ann and Scott.

His complete obituary can be found at: http://www.leadertelegram.com/people/obituaries/article_2365d5ba-1aae-5b41-b462-836ba721471e.html#.Uuh3QsZ3drl.facebook

Please pass your condolences on to his family.
