Here's a new feature I'm going to try: a monthly question about our family history. I'll post a new question each month and then post the answer the following month. Let me know what you think! If you'd like to submit a question, feel free to send it to me. Here's the first question:
From the time Brian Pendleton arrived in America in the early 1600's up until the middle of the 19th century, many of the Pendletons were involved in maritime activities - shipping, fishing and whaling. During that period, how many of our relatives were "lost at sea"?
a) 25 or fewer
b) More than 25, but fewer than 50
c) 50 or more
Check back next month for the answer!
--ANSWER
“C. More than 50.” Everett Hall Pendleton in his book, Brian Pendleton and His Descendants, cites at least 72 incidents of family members (including spouses) being “lost at sea.” He also notes another 37 relatives who drowned. Sorry I started this feature out on a depressing note.

Sick Call - Mary Ryan
I received this piece of news from Kathy [Ryan] Meyer about her mother, Mary [Pendleton] Ryan:
“Just thought I would put a note out here to tell you that mom just spent a week in the hospital [...]. She is now at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha for rehab. Her spirits are up and she is working hard to get back home. Fortunately we were able to get her in the BEST facility in Kenosha so we feel very lucky. She seems to be adjusting well. After Thursday you will be able to reach her at her usual number. (262)948-0759. I will keep you posted. Her address (until further notice) is Brookside Care Center, 3506 Washington Rd, Kenosha 53144. She is in Room 217.”
If you have a chance, drop her a Get Well card, or give her a call.

Blake Christopher Ryan has arrived.
New Categories!
Do you ever want to just look at the "Memorials" or "Birthdays" postings, but don't want to have to scroll through all the other postings? I've added 2 new categories to the posts on this blog: "Memorials" and "Birthdays". If you click on the Categories Label (on the left side of the screen) only the postings in that category will be displayed. I hope this makes navigating around the blog easier.

Sick Call - Ken Proctor
Ken Proctor, husband of Nancy [Niles] Proctor (2), underwent surgery on August 17th to remove 5 bone spurs in his neck. All went well except that during the procedure, his esophagus was punctured which required the insertion of a feeding tube into his stomach, He will have the feeding tube for 8 weeks and is unable to take any food or liquids by mouth until the tube comes out.
He has been recuperating at home and is back to taking short walks. Fortunately, Nancy is able to stop home during the day to help him with his feeding and meds.
Let’s all send our best wishes for a speedy recovery! If you have a chance, drop a note or an E-Mail to him and Nancy.
If you know of any other news in the family - births, marriages, illnesses etc. - let me know and I will post it. PaulPendleton@Comcast.net.
